NAI Annual Compliance Report Published

The onset of spring brings two certainties: (1) the cherry blossoms blooming in Washington, DC, and (2) publication of the Network Advertising Initiative’s (NAI) Annual Compliance Report, which I am proud to announce that we published today. The Report is based on findings from the NAI staff’s comprehensive monitoring processes during the 2015 compliance period and covers members’ compliance with the 2015 Update to the NAI Code of Conduct (Code) for the 2015 calendar year.

2015 Update to the NAI Code

In 2013, the NAI released the 2013 Code of Conduct, which significantly revised and updated the NAI's self-regulatory framework.

Today, the NAI is releasing the 2015 update to the Code, which intends to clarify certain obligations present in the 2013 Code of Conduct, and the accompanying commentary, in response to questions received by the NAI staff from members.  I want to emphasize and be clear that the updated Code is not adding new substantive requirements for members.

NAI Code Compliance and Enforcement: How It Works

As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, we at the NAI are most proud of our ongoing tradition of strong self-regulation which ensures responsible data collection and its use for digital advertising.

From time to time, we get questions about how we make sure that our members comply with the standards in our NAI Code.

Self-Regulation…with Teeth

Our Largest Annual Compliance Review to Date

Today, the NAI released its fifth Annual Compliance Report, based on our largest Annual Review to date.  The 2013 Annual Compliance Report provides a detailed overview of the NAI's multi-pronged approach to compliance.  The Report concentrated on the Annual Review of 88 member companies.

Why Educating Consumers is Essential to the Future of Online Advertising

Ever try to explain online advertising to someone? How about Interest-based Advertising “IBA?” We have, and it isn't easy. That’s because it is a really complex topic, and there’s a lot of inaccurate or misleading information out there.

That is why the NAI believes it is critical to try to help consumers understand IBA, the role it plays on the Internet, the real privacy impacts/threats and the choices every consumer has about whether or not to participate.

On Joining the NAI Staff – Noga Rosenthal, General Counsel and VP, Compliance & Policy

Last week, I left my longtime post as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of 24/7 Media to join the NAI full time. Although I will truly miss my old colleagues and the work I was doing with 24/7 Media as their global legal strategy lead, I am exceedingly excited about the road ahead.

I’ve been actively involved in the NAI, having served on the NAI board and as 24/7’s member representative for over five years.  I also spoke at the 2013 Member Summit in NYC, where I enjoyed meeting and reconnecting with many of the NAI member companies.
