The public discourse over spyware has now reached deafening proportions. Three major bills are working their way through Congress. Over 25 states have passed or introduced legislation. Anti-spyware technologies are selling at a furious clip and the media continues to stoke fears with stories of identity theft, loss of privacy, and polluted computers.

In many ways, ecommerce has suffered in the broader fight against spyware. Legitimate uses for technologies, and some business models, have become collateral damage in the war to reclaim desktops from fraud and deception.

There is an urgent need for strategic dialogue on these issues.

eCommerce in the Age of Spyware: The NAI Strategic Forum brought together leading experts from the current debate. The Forum offered an unprecedented opportunity for industry members to learn, share, and build consensus on the threats of spyware, and the proper responses from the market and public policymakers.
