NAI Consumer Opt-Out Protector Add-on for Firefox (Beta Version)
Helps Your Browser Remember NAI Opt Out Choices
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The final NAI Consumer Opt-Out Protector update was issued on August 1, 2012. Please visit the Digital Advertising Alliance's Protect My Choices Download Page for the newest Firefox opt-out protector.
NAI member companies' opt outs, which are accessible through the NAI web site, use browser cookies to help recognize users who choose not to receive behaviorally targeted ads. The NAI Consumer Opt Out Protector, currently in beta, is a Firefox browser add-on that has been designed to work with opt outs from participating NAI member companies and to help protect them from accidental deletion. Once installed, the software helps the Firefox browser "remember" previously set opt out preferences for NAI members that are stored in cookies, even if a user subsequently invokes the "remove all cookies" browser feature.
The NAI Consumer Opt Out Protector helps the Firefox browser preserve preferences for online behavioral advertising that you have previously set -- it does not set opt out preferences. As you download this Add-On, please note these important instructions.
- For this add on to work you must first set NAI opt out preferences. Either before or after installing the add on, please visit the NAI opt-out tool.
- Periodically check for updates. The Opt Out Protector's preference window will indicate if there are important updates, and provides a link to more information. Learn more here.
- Some security software may prevent opt outs from working. Some privacy and security programs restrict the use of third-party cookies, and block both online advertising-related and opt out cookies. Learn more here.
